Dil Se… (dir. Mani Ratram, 1998, India)
So Dil Se (NO ELLIPSIS PLEASE) is pretty amazing, a disturbing and beautiful odyssey through the conflicting mentalities of post-Rajiv Gandhi India and the personal politics of love and country (sometimes the same thing, sometimes for the wrong reasons). And the songs are great. Like, really great! BUT. (there’s always a ‘but’) Eros Entertainment have sullied this film with pretty much the worst DVD transfer imaginable, making it really the only time I’ve wanted a blu-ray version of the film I’m watching. Is there a petition anywhere to make this happen? Look at those frames above! Imagine them in crystal clarity with incredible sound! WHY HASN’T THIS HAPPENED PEOPLE. DAMN YOU EROS INTERNATIONAL. DAMN YOU TO HELL.
